Volunteer!

By thinking back to those who, in each of our lives, made the mundane special, who brought excitement to the everyday, who started us on the right path, we found the ideal positioning, and ideal descriptor for the role of the Big Brothers Big Sisters volunteer in a child's life.

Enroll a Child

Every child can benefit from having another caring adult in his/her life. Mentors help children broaden their horizons by sharing time with them. Children can meet with their mentors on weekends, during their school day, or after-school.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Ozaukee County > Our Program > School-Based Program

School-Based Program

This program provides Ozaukee County elementary and middle school students the chance to develop a positive attitude toward learning while having fun with a special friend as they do so. The School-Based volunteers and children spend approximately one hour a week during the school day participating in activities that help to strengthen the child’s academic, social, and organizational skills. The program also aims to help guide students as they become more confident and goal orientated.

Activity Ideas

Despite the match activities occurring only on the school premises, volunteers and children find creative ways to learn about each other and have fun. To name a few… having lunch together, helping with homework projects, participating in school activities, visiting the art room, working on computers, shooting baskets in the gym, and tossing a football on the playground.

The Rewards

This program offers both the volunteer and child a quick break from the work/school week where they can refocus, relax, and have fun with a special friend. After their time together, they both feel energized and prepared to tackle their upcoming projects whether it is the volunteer’s upcoming deadline or the child’s exam. The friendship provides the child with a special person to acknowledge, reward, and praise their efforts and accomplishments while the volunteer feels special for being the one to help the child reach their goals.
